Yesterday I saw an advertisement for a new take on boxed wine - shaped like a nice lady's handbag with a spigot at the bottom, of course.  Interesting... check it out here.   I teach kids' summer art camps and during one class the kids were assigned the task of designing the next great ketchup bottle shape and label.  There were lots of innovative ideas, including one shaped like a tomato and one with an accordion-like pump.  Interesting shapes are a fundamental element of good design.  But when it comes to wine, I think I'll leave the "purse" at home and stick to the tried and true.  How about you?

There is dog hair all over our house.  What does this have to do with art, you ask?  We have dark wood floors and a light blonde Golden Retriever.  In artistic terms it is called "contrast".  Dark-light, red-green, yin-yang, apples-oranges, opposites attract...  Contrast can be interesting, thought-provoking, or at times, disturbing.  Contrast is often the focal point of a painting.  But contrast is not good when there are hundreds of focal points all over a floor!  What contrast do you observe as you go about your day?
